About Me

I'M BONNIE,

My home studio is in the northwest corner of Massachusetts, minutes from New York and Vermont.

Earlier in life I was an RN, now retired.  This allows me to paint nearly every day, and that makes me very happy!   It is my belief that becoming an artist was my calling from an early age.  Always  a creative, I've been a sewer, knitter, basketmaker, graphite artist, pastel and watercolor enthusiast.  The one medium I stayed clear of was oils. due to fear.  This was what the masters used.  How could I ever learn this difficult medium.  Well, I plunged in with great enthusiasm.  That was over ten years ago, and I have never stopped.  I absolutely love the entire process, from the creamy texture of the paints and handling the brushes and palette knives, to stepping back to view my latest piece and make the many corrections my eyes point out to me, to sending it off to a collector. Every bit of the process brings me great pleasure.  Although I still draw in charcoal and graphite, sometimes pastel or gouache, I always return to oils.

When painting, I use the alla prima technique.  Alla prima means painting wet into wet, or "all at once."   My art is inspired by the bounty of nature and my love of collecting old things. I use the finest oil colors and archival surfaces so that your painting will last for a lifetime. My prints are also archival on heavy fine art paper with archival professional pigments. I have degrees in Nursing and Business Administration.  Through the years I have sought classical painters from which to learn.  I continue to attend workshops and online studies as I am always trying to improve my work.   If you have any questions at all, please contact me.  I would love to talk with you.
